The Plaza Mayor in Palma de Mallorca is located in the city center of Palma de Mallorca , just a few meters from other important monuments such as the Church of San Miguel or the main theater. The square that the Plaza Mayor of Palma de Mallorca occupies is that of the old monastery of San Felipe Neri and some neighboring houses. The square was the seat of the Inquisition until 1823. After the Inquisition headquarters were demolished, it took ten years to begin work on the first wing, which was completed in 1838. Work continued well into the 20th century, and an underground car park and several commercial galleries were built.
