Amare

Amare is the future educational and cultural complex at Spui in The Hague. The name comes from the Latin verb amare = to love and the Italian a mare = from the sea. It was referred to by the community during development as the OCC . The location on Spui in the center of The Hague will house the dance and music center The Hague, the Residentie Orkest, the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Royal Conservatory. Amare / OCC is a design by NOAHH / Patrick Fransen and JCAU / Jo Coenen. By June 2020 it will be built on the site where the Dr. Anton Philipszaal and the Lucent Danstheater, whose functions it will take on, and until the end of 2012 also the Ministry of Justice. After completion, the plant will take one year to complete. The official opening is scheduled for late summer 2021. Amare / OCC is the successor to the non-implemented Spuiforum design plan by Neutelings Riedijk Architecten. It was planned at the location of both theaters, but also at an important part of the Spuiplein, which would become significantly smaller as a result. This is not the case with the Amare / OCC plan. The plan to develop the Spuiforum in 2013-2018 was discarded in 2015 at the start of the construction phase.
