Fort Saint-Nicolas is a fort overlooking the old port of Marseille. It was built by the Chevalier de Clerville on the orders of Louis XIV from 1660 to 1664 to suppress the spirit of independence of the city of Marseille. Fort Saint-Nicolas was classified as a historic monument by decree of January 14, 1969
