Stieglgasse

In 1492 the Prewhaus on the Gstätten was first mentioned in a document. At that time, Hans Peuntner passed the brewery on to his son Jörg’s widow. The brewery got its name from a small staircase that led from the brewery to the Almkanal. The old brewery served as a brewery inn until 1909, when it was sold to the city of Salzburg, which in turn sold part of the building to the Ursuline monastery. The order had a girls’ high school built here. Today there is even a small staircase that leads from Gaststättengasse to Anton-Neumayr-Platz.
